Meet Jim
As former chair of the Clark County Commission, former three-term Mayor of Henderson, and a practicing attorney in business and commercial law for more than 40 years, Jim Gibson brings extensive experience in local government and Las Vegas' most vital industries to his position as Clark County Commissioner.
While mayor of Henderson, Jim guided the city through a period of unprecedented growth as it became the second-largest city in Nevada. Among many notable accomplishments, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Apple Partnership, a citywide K-3rd grade literacy program; creating Henderson's award-winning Development Services Center; establishing the West Henderson Global Business District; and personally leading the effort to establish Nevada State College.
A native Nevadan born in Las Vegas, Gibson has served on numerous boards and commissions, including as the current Chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Fiscal Affairs Committee.
Gibson has also served on the Nevada Development Authority Board of Directors, the Las Vegas Events Board of Directors, the Regional Transportation Commission and as Co-Chair of the Civilian Military Council. And, Gibson was Chair of the St. Rose Dominican Hospital Board of Directors.
In his professional life, Jim currently serves as President of Western Elite, a full-service waste services provider. He previously served as General Counsel of American Pacific Corporation, President of the Las Vegas Monorail Company, and President & Chief Executive Officer of Vegas.com.
Gibson has also has been recognized often for his contributions to the community. Among the awards he has earned are the Humanitarian Award from the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, the Outstanding Citizen of the Year from the Henderson Community Foundation, and the Lili Claire Foundation recognized Jim with its Spirit of Leadership Award.
For his work to improve education, Gibson received the Nevada State College President's Medal and the Clark County School District Crystal Apple Award.
Jim's advocacy on behalf of Small Business earned him the Henderson Development Association as the O'Callaghan Public Sector Person of the Year for economic development, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Member and the Commercial Managers Group honored Gibson with its Vision Award.
A devoted community servant, Jim has served as a volunteer Little League Baseball coach, girls softball coach and as a leader in the Scouts of America was recognized by the Las Vegas Area Council with the Good Scout Award.
